Williams has Papillary Type 2 cancer, according to a news release. It’s unclear when he will undergo surgery.
“Although disappointing, I am a fighter and will handle this,” Williams said. “I am going to focus on my health and fighting this battle with a return to football as my ultimate goal.”
“Thank you for your thoughts and support. Go Hawks!” Williams said.
The Seahawks acquired Williams in the 2013 draft but he spent that season on the injured reserve list. He played college football for the University of Alabama.
General Manager John Schneider called Williams an “extraordinarily tough individual.”
“We will support him in any way possible,” Schneider said. “He is in our thoughts and prayers.”
